Should I make a claim and what to do: A guide for medical professionals

As a medical professional, you understand the importance of being prepared for unexpected events. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or just starting your career, having the right insurance coverage is crucial for safeguarding your practice and personal assets. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the claims process, offering insights and tips to help you navigate this crucial stage with confidence.

At Walshs, we specialise in caring for medical professionals at various stages of their careers. We emphasise the significance of having comprehensive insurance coverage tailored to your career journey. Whether it’s life insurance, total and permanent disability, income protection, trauma, or needlestick coverage, our services ensure you’re adequately protected against potential risks and liabilities.

So, you have insurance and now you may need to make a claim. What’s next?

Should I make a claim and what to do: A guide for medical professionals

  1. Contact the Walshs team

The first step is to reach out to us. We are here to answer your questions and guide you through the claims process. Once informed of your potential claim, we will contact you within 24 business hours to offer support and determine the grounds for your claim. We will review your insurance policies, organise an appointment if necessary, and help you lodge a Notice of Intent to Claim. If we manage your salary packaging or tax, we will inform the relevant teams to ensure everyone is on the same page.

  1. Claim assessment and requirements

After lodging your Notice of Intent to Claim, we act as the facilitator between you and the insurers to ensure the claim is processed appropriately. We manage the paperwork, which can be daunting, and if you are a tax client, we will work with your accountant to complete all financial requirements promptly. Your cooperation may be required to expedite the process.

  1. Supporting you through the claim

Once the requirements are provided to the insurer for assessment, they may contact your doctors, which can take some time. Throughout your claim, Walshs prioritises communication. We will keep you informed about the progress of your claim and any additional information required. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding your claim during this time. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible, advocating for you every step of the way.

  1. Finalisation

Once the claim is finalised, we will liaise with the relevant parties to ensure that the funds are either invested appropriately or noted for your personal tax. While the claims process can seem daunting, especially during challenging times, having a trusted partner to support you can make all the difference. The Walshs team is dedicated to guiding you through every step, providing personalised support and expert advice.

Additional support from the Walshs team

Our insurance division is proactive and can help you safeguard your livelihood against unforeseen risks and uncertainties. Claims assistance is just one part of our services. If you’re interested in learning more about what we can offer, book a complimentary meeting with us. We will get to know you, discuss your career and lifestyle goals, gather information, and provide tailored suggestions. If you decide to move ahead, we will develop a personal risk plan and research various insurers and policies to ensure it fits your long-term goals and needs.

By understanding each stage of the process and partnering with a reputable insurance and financial services provider, you can navigate the claims process with confidence and protect what matters most – you, your assets, and your peace of mind.
