When Walshs’ team member, Trish Cumming, started looking for a charity for our team to support over the Christmas period she wanted to ensure that the charity she chose would support our local Brisbane community, and the people in our city, in a very real and meaningful way.
When she first saw the Brisbane Basket Brigade on social media and then, soon after, received an email about their corporate and team opportunities it felt like perfect timing.
The Basket Brigade is a non-profit organisation that provides food and gifts for people that need a hand around Christmas time, including children, the elderly, the hungry and the homeless.
Baskets of donations, ranging from Christmas decorations to food packages are given anonymously to those who most need that particular gift or item. Each basket also contains a note that asks the recipient to take care of themselves and, if one day they find themselves in a position to help another, to please do so.
In 2019 the Brisbane Basket Brigade is aiming to deliver 1000 family baskets (including 150 baskets for regional Queenslanders) and 200 homeless bags for people living on the street, plus 5000 Christmas gifts.
The Walshs team is looking forward to participating in the charity’s team event, helping to pack baskets on Friday 13 December, allowing us to participate in a worthwhile event while also enjoying time together in the lead up to the Christmas season.
