Hiking to Beat Blood Cancer
Saturday 19 May – Sunday 20 May 2018
Two days and 55km through subtropical rainforest, past stunning gorges, waterfalls and scenic coastal panoramas, the Walk with Walshs team shed blood, sweat and tears (of joy of course!) to raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation .
Our team of 20 partners, clients, staff and their family and friends joined forces for the walk to raise $20,000 so far.
Walshs’ CEO Michael Walsh said the team churned through quite a few band-aids, blister packs, protein bars, and bottles of water over the two days but it was all worth the hard work and discomfort.
“Pushing our mental and physical boundaries while we raised money for a good cause was very rewarding,” Micheal said.
“And while the walk was certainly challenging, tired muscles, sore feet, and a few blisters are nothing compared to what leukaemia patients and their families endure during treatment.”
Every day 35 Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and other types of blood cancer.
Money raised from Walk with Walshs will fund medical research and help the Leukaemia Foundation provide a range of free services for patients including counselling, transportation to and from medical appointments, and accommodation for their family close to treatment facilities.
Michael said when he started Walshs nearly 30 years ago, he made it a priority to help make a difference in the community.
“Sponsoring just $50 will mean someone being treated in hospital gets a personal visit from a highly-trained health professional to get the extra support they need. No matter how much you give, it’s an extraordinary way to make a difference.
“This event is really important to us and I can’t thank enough the clients, staff and friends who have supported us on the Walk with Walshs.”
If you missed the walk, it isn’t too late to support the team and the Leukaemia Foundation.
“We have until June 30 to reach our target and of course all donations are tax deductible,” Michael said.
“We’ve already set our sights on a bigger Walk with Walshs team for May 2019.
“Again, thank you to the staff, clients, and friends who have supported Walk with Walshs,” Michael said.
If you want to support the cause, we are taking donations until the end of the financial year.
